How to choose a domain name. Choosing a domain name for your website is something you need to put some thought into. The goal of this blog post is to give you tips and some recommendations to enable you choose a domain name for your website and also where to register it.
For clarity, my domain name is – loismelikam.com
10 Tips For Choosing A Domain Name
1. Use the popular extensions (.com, .org, .net)
For a start, go with a .com extension. This is because many people who use the internet will assume it is a .com because it’s currently the most popular domain name extension, and it won’t be nice if you keep loosing out on potential client because of your domain name extension.
According to a statistics done by domain name stats, .com 37% of all domains have the .com extension.
2. Make it short and memorable.
The shorter the better. When your domain name is short, it is easier for people to remember and they can easily find your website too. Because the truth is that some of your web visitors will not likely sign up to your email address the first time they visit, but if your content is great, they will definitely want to come back and so if your domain name is short and memorable it makes the entire process much easier for them.
So by all means, make your domain name short and memorable.
3. Make it easy to pronounce
Sometimes you will need to tell people your domain name, and others of course will very likely share your domain with their friends, so make it easy for them to pronounce. People should not struggle to pronounce your domain name.
4. Do not use special characters like Hyphens
When choosing your domain name, make sure you do not include the use of characters such as hyphens.
5. Consider Using Keywords
Consider including keywords in your domain name. You can include keywords that reflects your what your website is about in your domain name.
This is because keywords can help improve your search engine optimization. But don’t over do it when including SEO, it should still be simple, short and memorable and of course no hyphens.
If you are going to use keyword, you should put them at the beginning of your domain name as this will help with your ranking.
6. Use Your Name
Consider using your name as your domain name. Without any doubt, you know this is my most favorite tip because obviously my domain name is my name. I recommend registering your name as a domain name for future purposes and for ease of branding.
If you become so successful, you will see the name to re brand, and using your name as your website domain name becomes necessary at this point.
If you will be offering services on your website, using your name is also a good option.
But if your name is not so easy to spell and memorize, you can use either your first name with a combination of a keyword.
7. Check For The Availability Of the name on all other social media accounts
For any domain name you choose, check the availability of the name on all other social media account. At least you should use the popular social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.
Using the same name on all other social media accounts solidifies your brand.
I love to use this tool namecheckr to check for the availability of names on all other social media accounts.
8. Think about the future
When choosing your domain name, make it expandable in the future. Don’t use a domain name that will put in a box.
Ideally your domain name should be able to grow with you and your business. If it is going to serve you for just a few years, then it might not be a good fit.
9. Be creative
Let your creativity come alive when choosing your domain name.
Simply write down names and go through them to choose what meets the right criteria.
10. Avoid unfamiliar terms
Avoid unfamiliar terms when choosing your domain name so that you don’t scare your potential clients and web visitors away. In your trying to be creative, don’t over do it. And if you must use keyword, let it be terms that are familiar in your niche.
11. Don’t overthink it
Don’t get stuck in choosing a domain name because you’re overthinking it. Some people get stuck with building their website because they are trying to decide on the perfect domain name. Don’t let that be you. A good domain name is better than a perfect domain name and it get’s your business off the ground as well.
Okay I know you’re asking how do I register a domain name?
It’s quite simple, and I’ve got just two options for you.
If you don’t have any website yet, I recommend registering your domain name with namecheap. And that’s where I registered all my domain names and there services are great too.

Reasons Why You Should Start An Email list

Of every other social media platforms out there like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter etc. You do not own them and so cannot control what happens and how your audience can be reached. But your email list and website are the two personal assets of a blogger and an online business owner.
2. Email list is personal.
Because email is personal it gives you the opportunity to reach your audience personally without much interference from all the noise going on on all other social media platforms and in the world in general. Generally people read their emails at a convenient time. So they can read your email and even respond to you if they have questions.
3. Email is Targeted
Your email list captures a group of people who are interested in your brand and what you’re offering, so your email list is targeted and you can deliver to them relevant offers and get good results.
4. More people use their emails.
More people read their emails several times a day. Take yourself as an example, you definitely check your emails a few times a day so that you don’t miss important messages. And every internet user has atleast one email account.
And a research conducted by Radicati discovered that there are 3.8 billion email accounts.
If you want to monetize your blog, having an email list is a great asset because you would have built trust with your email subscribers, and so they will easily buy from you.
So are you ready to start your email list and make more money from your blog? I will show you how to start an email list in 30 minutes.
So let’s get started.
How To Set Up Your Email List
The first step to setting up your email list to choose an email provider.
You only need to take a few steps which are pretty easy to sign up for a convertkit account. You need your email address and a password to do so.
Step 2. Create A Form
The next thing you need to do is to create a form
This is a sign up form that you can embed anywhere on your blog or website. To create a form, click on the “Landing Pages Forms” tab on the top navigation menu, and then click on “Create New” Button. And you will see a screen like the one below. Click on the “form” button and you see some beautiful templates that you can easily customize by simply changing the colors and images to your brand own.
To place this form on your website or blog, go to your Form > settings > Embed and grab the code there, and then paste it in a widget area or HTML editor on your blog.
Step 3. Create A Sequence
After creating your form, the next thing you should do is to create a sequence in convertkit. The sequence is what your subscribers will receive after they sign up to your email list.
As a beginner, you just need only one email in your sequence, so no need to overthink it. And this is your welcome email and should contain the following:
An introduction of yourself and what you do
A link to download the incentive
A thank you for subscribing
And what they can expect from you as your subscribers.
NOTE: If you’re currently on the free plan, the automated sequences is one feature that you don’t have access to until you upgrade. But you can still deliver your optin to your subscribers by directing them to a page to on your blog with a link to download the optin incentive.
You can do that on your opt-in form settings. Simply select “Redirect to an external page” and create a page on your blog with a link to download the opt-in incentive.
Step 4. Link Your Form To Your Sequence
After creating a form and a sequence, now you have to link the two of them with an Automation.
Create a new automation and select “Joins a Form” as the first event. Select the form that you just created.
Next, add an action. “Add the subscriber to email sequence” and select the sequence that you just created.
Finally publish the automation, by toggling the botton in the top right corner of the screen to live.
Once you have completed this, your form and sequence will be linked.
How To Send Newletters In Convertkit
To send newsletters to your subscribers, just click on “Broadcast”. It is at the top of your navigation menu in your convertkit account. In convertkit, newsletters are called braodcast, so don’t be confused.
Ideally you should send weekly newletters to your subscribers so that you can establish trust and build a relationship with them.
So that’s it, this is everything you need to know about on how to start an email list.
Your domain name is your website address that is unique to you, which your web visitors will type into their browser when they want to visit your website. Typically a domain name cost $10 – $15 per year. For example my domain name is loismelikam.com
There are different types of host plans available, you simply pick one based on your website needs and budget.
WordPress offers thousands of free themes that are available in the wordpress repository and available to all users of wordpress as well. So once you install wordpress on your website, you will have free themes that you can use to customize the appearance and look of your wordpress website.
So typically you can build a website with just your domain name and hosting, but you may end up paying for a premium theme and other tools like plugins which involves extra cost, and that is why it’s usually difficult for people to estimate the real cost of building a wordpress website.
An Estimate of the real cost of a wordpress website
A wordpress website typically will cost anything from $100 to $600 and even as much as $5000, or even more.
I am going to show you how to get your own self-hosted website with bluehost. So that you can have more control over it and even more opportunities to monetize your website.
I recommend bluehost because their hosting plans includes:
A free domain name for your first year. A domain name typically cost $10-15 yearly, but when you purchase your hosting from bluehost, you get a free domain name for your first year. Your domain name is the name of your website. You can use your personal name as your domain name and choose the .com, or .org extension as they are the most popular and most people visiting your website will automatically assume it’s a .com.
Free SSL Certificate: An SSL Certificate adds the little lock next to your website URL in the address bar. An SSL Certificate (Secure Sockets Layer), also called a Digital Certificate, creates a secure link between a website and a visitor’s browser. By ensuring that all data passed between the two remains private and secure, SSL encryption prevents hackers from stealing private information such as credit card numbers, names and addresses. If you sell products or services on your website and accept credit cards online, you need an SSL Certificate for website security.
One Click WordPress Installation: Building a website is easy if you don’t have to mess around with codes. And with bluehost it’s just a one click, and you have wordpress installed and ready to build your website.
24/7 support: If you have a question, their customer support will help you.
You will see this page, click on “Get Started” button.
Then choose one of bluehost packages
I recommend the “basic plan”. It is the cheapest option and also has all the features you need to to build a website.
But you can choose any other plan.
Click, “Select” on your choosen plan and next you’ll set up your domain.
If you don’t own any domain name yet, you can create a new domain by entering your domain name in the left hand side.
Use namecheckr to verify that your domain name is available and also claim your name across all social media accounts.
When you put your domain name, it will show you what domain name extensions are (.com, .org, .net) and social media platforms the name is available on.
But if you already have a registered domain name, then enter it on the right hand side and click “next”.
You will be taken to this page:
Create Your Account
Fill in your information.
For the package information, bluehost sets your hosting plan to 3years and it’s the cheapest option. When you choose the three years hosting plan it is cheaper and you don’t get to worry about hosting for the first few years, and you focus on earning passive income from your website.
Next you select your package extras.
Bluehost automatically selects some of these package extras. But you can deselect them but make sure that you select the “domain privacy protection”.
It cost’s $11.88 a year. The Domain Privacy Protection is a service Bluehost offers that will hide your personal contact information that you used in registering your domain like your phone number and email address from the public WHOIS database and replace it with generic Bluehost contact information instead. You are still the owner of the domain name, but your personal contact information is kept safe.
Next, enter your payment information
Scroll down and tick the box to agree to the terms and conditions and then click on submit.
Once you pay for your hosting, you will see this screen.
Check your email, bluehost will send you a welcome email confirming your account and FTP information.
Next, create a password for your account. Make sure you follow the guidelines for creating a password and also write it down somewhere, as you will need it to login.

With bluehost, after your hosting account is created, WordPress will install automatically.
Bluehost makes it easy for you to create a wordpress site especially if you’re not tech savvy.

As a business owner you sure know that you need a website. But for want of clarity, let me help you make a better decision so that you can start building your website today.
1. a website Makes You Discoverable
If you have a website, when someone goes on google and types in your business name, you’ll pop up. It’s a little bit weird if you are not discover able and this is the first step in making your online presence discover able. Do you know there are many potential clients right now searching for the problems that you can help them solve? If you build your website today your potential clients will discover you and you will make more money.
2. A Website Allows you to tell your own story in your own way.
A Website allows you to tell your own story in your own way. There are a lot of people on Instagram who have a great following, and when I visit their profile, I quickly check for their website to understand exactly what they do and I realize that they don’t have a website and then I have to go through their feed to piece together what it is that they do. (Not many people will do this). And so you keep losing customers and money. But when you have a website, you easily tell your readers what you and who you serve on your “About Me Page“, . So rather than make it difficult for your potential client to understand you by guessing and scanning through your social media posts.
3. A Website allows you to set up many more marketing strategies
A Website allows you to set up many more marketing Strategies like:
Grow Your Email List
Set up your sales Funnel.
These are the things you can do once you have a website, and your website can actually become one of your best sales tool and your business will bring in sales 24/7.
4. a website allows you to demonstrate your expertise
A Website allows you to demonstrate your expertise. This in turn brings in more clients because they see you as the go to person in that field.
More people are going online and so it has become more normal to hire people online.
5. A Website Allows You To Get Hired Easily
A website allows you to get hired easily. So take advantage of the opportunities in front of you.
If you have been on the fence about creating your own website, I challenge you to start now.
